Probably not surprising in Ballarat…

I’ve been getting a bit stir crazy over the last few days with the builder here doing renovations. Haven’t been out much at all. So today, I went for a bit of a walk to get some oxygen. About 450m southeast of our house are a couple of historical mine sites. All I had seen previously was a bit of a hill viewed from the road. Walking the area, you can see lots of quartz (see photos below) and a couple of mounds that were probably mullock heaps.

The Exchange Co. Whim No. 1 is apparently this site, and the only reference I have relates it to the Exchange Co. Shaft No. 1 which is about 300m east. Both were vein-hosted workings (hence all the quartz) and operated about 120 years ago.
