One of the local universities here in Ballarat, Federation University, will be celebrating 150 years this year. As a part of the celebration, I and a few other local artists, have been asked to undertake creation of some artwork bringing together minerals/geology and art. This university had its roots in the local School of Mines, and geology and art have been and still are taught, geology since inception, and art from 1907.

The details are still being worked out, but there will likely be two exhibitions, one more informal in nature in September of this year (to coincide with the birthday celebrations) and a more formal one in 2021, with the possibility of the acquisition of the winning artwork by the university for its art collection.

The bonus for me personally is that, as well as creating mineral art, I should get to see more of the university mineral collection, much of which is in archives. Some cases are on public display such as the one photographed here.
