Today was the first day here in Victoria where some restrictions have been eased.

I dropped my car off to be serviced at 8am (it was a wee bit overdue) and went for a walk around central Ballarat while I waited for the work to be finished. With about an hour and a half to wait, I walked along most of the main streets.

Prior to the pandemic, a number of shops, particularly in the Bridge Mall, but also Sturt Street, the main thoroughfare, were already empty. Now there are quite a lot more. Many businesses had signs saying they would open when safe to do so, or you could shop online. Others had restricted trading hours and/or days. And a number were still trading.

It is the first time in a couple of months that I have walked around central Ballarat. I have to say it was eerily quiet.
