Today I had the pleasure of joining the New South Wales Mineralogical Society micro group Zoom meeting. Noel Kennon gave a presentation on mineral names and some of the challenges that we, as mineral collectors, can face. Apatite was one of the troublesome ones. So I was going to go with that.
But then it has been so cold here in Ballarat, that I considered making ice the Mineral of the Week, and yes, ice is a valid mineral! As an aside, Jolyon Ralph‘s pronunciation of ice (link below) sounds like Kaa out of the Jungle Book 😁
So this week’s Mineral of the Week (MotW) is chlorapatite, fluorapatite, hydroxylapatite, or if unsure, just apatite.
Also, ice!
